E-Learning Course: Active Bystander Training

This E-Learning explores some of the myths and facts around all forms of sexual violence. It is designed to raise awareness of the issues faced by survivors and impacts on society, with a view to improving our ability to intervene and stand-up to sexual violence, abuse and harassment.

Be able to define sexual violence, abuse, and harassment in all its forms.

• Know the types of behaviours and activities that are included in the definition of sexual violence. 

• Have an understanding of Rape Culture and how it normalises, validates and perpetuates sexual violence.  

• Challenge victim-blaming and commonly held myths around sexual violence.  

Understand the possible impacts of sexual violence, abuse, and harassment on the survivor, and the wider consequences.

• Be aware of the wife-ranging impacts of sexual violence on all areas of a survivor’s life.  

• Understand the concepts Space for Action and Invisible Safety Work, and how these relate to sexual violence and impact on all marginalised genders. 

• Be able to take an Intersectional Approach, and understand that intersectional identities change experiences of sexual violence, abuse, and harassment.  

Feel confident to be an Active Bystander. 

• Know who can be an Active Bystander. 

• Learn how to recognise someone in danger and identify indicators of sexual violence, abuse, and harassment.   

• Know when to intervene in sexual violence, abuse, and harassment.  

• Feel confident to safely intervene and stand-up to sexual violence in all its form. 

Know what relevant campaigns you can get involved in. 

• Know what relevant campaigns are running nationally, and critically assess them.  

• Be able to get involved in bystander campaigns and activism.
