An active bystander witnesses a potentially harmful situation and takes action to intervene, prevent, or de-escalate it. They might speak up against discrimination, harassment, or violence, support victims or seek help from authorities. Active bystanders are crucial in promoting safety and preventing harm in their communities.
Our courses empower participants to become active bystanders. The course covers defining sexual violence, understanding its societal impacts and recognising incidents. Participants will build confidence in safe intervention techniques and learn practical tools to challenge and stand up to sexual violence. Training can be delivered in various formats: face-to-face, online, or self-guided e-learning.
An active bystander witnesses an incident and takes action rather than looking away. This might involve checking on the targeted person or intervening to separate the perpetrator. By becoming an active bystander, you contribute to a safer, more inclusive society.

Active bystander training empowers individuals to recognize and safely intervene in potentially harmful situations, such as discrimination, harassment, or violence. Instead of looking away, an active bystander takes appropriate action—whether that means checking on the targeted person, de-escalating the situation, or seeking help from authorities. This training is crucial for promoting safety, preventing harm, and creating proactive, inclusive communities and workplaces.
Our courses are designed to help you confidently navigate and challenge harmful behaviours. Key topics include defining all forms of sexual violence, recognizing how harassment occurs in society and the workplace, and understanding the profound impact these incidents have on survivors. Most importantly, participants learn practical tools and safe intervention techniques so they feel empowered to stand up against harassment and violence effectively.
We offer a variety of CPD-certified workshops and e-learning courses tailored to different needs. These include comprehensive workshops like our core Be an Active Bystander course, and targeted workplace sessions such as Preventing Workplace and Third-Party Harassment. We also offer quick, highly accessible 1-hour e-learning modules, including an Introduction to Activism and standard Active Bystander Training.
