Course Description
To be able to work effectively with trauma survivors, it is important to be able to recognise vicarious trauma responses in ourselves and those we work with and to know how to manage those responses at an individual level and organisational level.
Course Content
By the end of this session learners will:
- know what is meant by vicarious trauma
- be able to recognise responses to vicarious trauma and the ways it can be experienced
- understand the difference between vicarious trauma, burnout and compassion fatigue
- know how to manage responses to vicarious trauma in themselves and other individuals
- Have an understanding of nervous system regulation with ideas for managing their own vicarious trauma (auto-regulation) and helping others manage theirs (co-regulation)
- know how to manage responses to vicarious trauma within a team or organisation
